Here, denial rate is denied applications divided by originated plus denied applications. Withdrawn applications, incomplete files and loans approved but not accepted are excluded.
Lenders serve different borrowers and markets. A higher denial share alone does not establish unfair treatment. Denial reasons can include debt-to-income ratio, credit history and collateral, and multiple reasons may be recorded.
